Update on Active Travel Route – Causewayhead to Dunblane

Update on Active Travel Route – Causewayhead to Dunblane

At our meeting last week Flora and Michaela from the Stirling Council Active Travel Project team presented an update on the Causewayhead to Dunblane active travel route.  You can read the presentation below.

A feasibility study on the Bridge of Allan to Dunblane route was completed in 2021, and a study of the Bridge of Allan to Airthrey Road was completed in 2023.  Now concept designs for the Phase 1 part of the route are being prepared for wider consultation.

At this stage we are looking for members of Community Advisory Group (CAG).  People who have been previously involved in the group looking at the route, will be contacted to confirm ongoing engagement. The CAG will be a group represnting a broad range of interests, insights and expertise to consult with on early designs, areas of constraint and support the project development.  Over time the group will assist in sharing accurate information on decision making and in obtaining support within the wider community.  If you are interested in becoming a member of the CAG then please get in touch.

The consultation on this part of the route has not started yet, but you may find interesting the process and comments riased during the Walk Cycle Live Stirling Project consultation.

Travel Survey Open – suggestions include closing BofA train station

A new Travel Survey from Stirling Council is looking for your views.  One of the proposals includes the closure of Bridge of Allan train station so it is important to take a look.

As a response to the climate emergency and in support of economic development planning, Stirling Council are carrying out research on our travel and transport infrastructure and our needs now and into the future. Along with TACtran, the regional transport body, they have been working on a study looking at ways to make it easier to get to jobs, services and opportunities both in Stirling City and places like Glasgow and Edinburgh without needing to travel by car. Along with walking and cycling improvement programmes such as Walk, Cycle, Live Stirling and City Centre South, they are looking at longer distance bus and rail connections, and the Park & Ride/Park & Choose provision.

As part of this they talked to stakeholders including community councils and transport operators, about what developments might solve the problems, and a total of 99 suggestions came out of this. A high level assessment of these options was undertaken against criteria including environment, economy, safety, integration, accessibility/social inclusion, as well as their feasibility, affordability and public acceptability. This led to ten options which were then considered more closely.

More detail on these options is available in the link below. Significantly, one of the options impacts directly on the services provided for the community of Bridge of Allan, namely for a new rail station between Bridge of Allan, Causewayhead and Cornton. Because there would be two stations close together there are two sub-options

– A new rail station between Bridge of Allan, Causewayhead and Cornton keeping the Bridge of Allan Station

-A new station between Bridge of Allan, Causewayhead and Cornton with the closure of the Bridge of Allan Station

Please complete the Survey to ensure your needs are considered. The DEADLINE for the Survey is 3rd January, 2022.

Cycling and Walking Stories

Cycling and Walking Stories

Many have enjoyed walking, wheeling and cycling for work, school and leisure over the past year. Stirling Council would like to capture some of these positive walking, wheeling and cycling stories in a report that’s being produced this year. If you know someone that has a positive story to tell, please do get in touch with Andrew Scoles (scolesa@stirling.gov.uk) by Wednesday 12th May for more information.

Sustrans’ project, currently known as Bike Life, is a big-picture report into walking and cycling in 18 cities across the UK. Formerly with a primary focus on cycling, the project is expanding in 2021 to include more information on what it’s like to be a pedestrian or wheelchair user in the city too.

They are looking for

  • Anyone with a personal story and/or a lot to say around active travel in Stirling and BofA
  • Someone who engages in a reasonable amount of active travel in Stirling and BofA. This may be for work or volunteering purposes, to encourage others within the community to cycle, or as a fundamental way to get around as part of their daily life
  • Someone with an inspiring story about how active travel helped them improve part of their life
  • We especially encourage participation by people from ethnic minorities, those from diverse racial backgrounds, those who have a disability, those on lower incomes, people with protected characteristics and those who wouldn‘t class themselves a  stereotypical” cyclist or walker for any reason.

You will be asked to give some time to tell your story and get your photo taken.  Get in touch with Andrew Scoles (scolesa@stirling.gov.uk) by Wednesday 12th May for more information.
