We will be launching a formal consultation into the parking restrictions on Henderson Street and nearby areas in the next week or so. This will involved an online survey and a display in the library where there will be paper copies of the survey available too. Watch out for further communications announcing when this is launched.
Issue 1: the “Co-op” car park, Fountain Rd.
It is no longer possible to find spaces at times, largely because some cars are parked there all day. Charges should be levied on stays of longer than an hour.
Issue 2: Keir St – a once broad boulevard, it has been reduced to a single file road because of cars parked all day. The main cause of this is the use by University students/employees avoiding the University parking charges. Cars are regularly parked by Pullar Park from Monday am to Friday pm, and even longer.
There is a serious safety risk for anyone, especially children, crossing into Pullar Park as they emerge through the lines of parked cars. What raises the risk is that cars turning West into Keir St from Henderson St often accelerate down past the tennis courts. I would urge the implementation of 20mph speed limits, and parking for residents only.
Issue 3 – Parking around the Primary School.
Every morning and afternoon, the roads around the school presents a chaotic and dangerous scene. For health and safety reasons, I would suggest an exclusion zone around the school, with parents being banned from dropping off children within 200 metres of the building.
Thanks for your comments Ian
I completely agree with Ian’s concerns about Keir Street. The volume of cars parked there make it dangerous to cross the road, as line of sight is so reduced; likewise, trying to drive out of Mayne Avenue onto Keir Street is just waiting for a head-on collision due to the reduced line of sight as a result of parked cars.
Thanks for the feedback Gary
Parking outside Lumia on the main road opposite the park is a hazard to traffic and causes delays. It is not just Keir Street which is affected by parking from the university and Lumia – it is Graham Street too. On Keir Street and others I cannot understand why people who have garages and drive-ways do not use them. I agree with Ian that the library carpark and the main carpark should be free only for the first hour or so an that charges should be levied thereafter. Parking at the station is also a problem if one wishes to catch a train after 9.00am. There isn’t any.
Hi there,
Many thanks for your comments, we’ll add them to our consultation.

Michael
Have some ongoing concerns around the number of cars parked on Cawder Road and lower parts of Station Road. Frequently in excess of 25+ vehicles parked all day, and in some cases for several days. These cause congestion and there are safety concerns in an area with significant pedestrian activity, and further exacerbated as these roads form part of the C48 community bus route.
Having observed the activity, the drivers are in the main commuters.
Suggest consideration is given to restrict vehicle use by imposing “access only” conditions to Cawder Road.
Many thanks for your comments which we’ll feed into our consultation.
Regards,
Michael

People constantly Parking on Sheriffmuir Road which has a ‘No stopping(Clearway)sign is a real problem.
The road has a pavement only on one side, it has a slight ditch on the other, is narrow and on a slope. In winter if its icy its a real hazard. Never mind prams or wheelchair users trying to access the pavement. The traffic enforcement officers come up quite often but that doesn’t seem to deter anyone. The only thing people seem to obey are double yellow lines.
