Support local causes with Co-op membership

Support local causes with Co-op membership

Becoming a member at the co-op is easy to do and has many benefits.  One of them is to support local causes every time you buy.

When you buy selected co-op products and services 2p for every £1 you spend goes into your co-op Membership account which you can spend on your shopping or donate. The same amount goes to support community organisations and local causes.

Supporting local causes

Three local causes are supported at the moment.  You can choose one to support or give all three an equal share.

Bridge of Allan PTA are looking to add educational games to the early years playground to create an engaging outdoor learning environment for the school’s nursery, P1 and P2 children.

Friends of Bridge of Allan aim to install new seating and planted areas to add to our existing ones throughout the village. We provide and maintain floral displays, picnic and seating areas, and maintain public open spaces.

Teas Company run a weekly café which supports people suffering from Dementia and their carers and breaks down barriers between generations.

A Christmas Thank-You

A Christmas Thank-You

We hope you have been enjoying the Christmas lights.  We thought it important to acknowledge all those that have made it possible.

Thanks to the generosity of residents and visitors, business and community sponsors, the Community Council and Friends of Bridge of Allan all working together to light up the village.  This year we are also fortunate to receive a Community Pride grant from Stirling Council towards the lights repairs.

Lights Sponsorship

Thanks to our sponsors who have been with us over the years and some new ones this year. We are grateful to have such community spirited businesses in the village, please take some time to check out the sponsorship plaques under the lights.  You will see the names of our proud sponsors: UCP, Allanwater Café, The Westerton Arms, Kevin Wilson Master Builders, Central Property Maintenance Services, Angels’ Share Glass, Bridge of Allan Dental, Harper and Stone, Halliday Homes, Co-op Funeral Care, Executive Golf and Leisure, Emma Drewery Optometrists and Francis Masterson Plumbing and Heating.  So please shop local this Christmas, online or on the high street and show your appreciation.

Many local businesses and groups also rallied round for the Crowdfunder: Capture Boutique, Bridge of Allan Hardware, Lockhart & Taylor, The Flooring Studio, Leeanne Kerr, Fotheringham Gallery, The Good Choice, Nick’s and the Nairn Family, Stirling Photography Festival, Forth Residential Ltd, Bridge of Allan Round Table, Mailers, Allanwater Chiropractors and finally, Friends of Bridge of Allan…and possibly more, sorry if I haven’t recognized your name in the donor list.

We also have some wonderful memorial and family sponsorships.  It means so much to us that loved ones can be remembered at this time of year.  Thanks to these friends and families supporting the lights in this way: The family of Michael Moss, team Angie’s Diamond in memory of Angela Donaldson, Jo and Mia in memory of Alasdair Garbett, the Mitchell family in memory of Chris Mitchell, the Davidsons in memory of Lloyd Bremner, the Sweeny family, and the Roughead family in memory of AnnMarie.

Crowdfunder Success!

Thanks to everyone from far and wide who chipped in big or small to the Crowdfunder.  168 Supporters, from £5 to £1000, from sharing on your social media or telling your granny, it all helped!  The Bridge of Allan Scouts did a fantastic job designing the supporter badges which makes me wish Scouts was available to my age bracket!  Don’t forget, in the new year, on the 8th January, they will be doing a tree collection raising funds for Chest Heart and Stroke Scotland

Donors to the Crowdfunder will be able to brighten up their Christmas tree with their supporters badges

Your Christmas Lights project manager Elf will be out this Friday/Saturday delivering the supporter badges.  If you made a pledge to our campaign, but were new to Crowdfunder and weren’t sure how to get a supporter reward but would like one then get in touch with your name and address as we still have a few available. Get in touch either through the Crowdfunder platform or contact@ccbridgeofallan.org.uk.

And finally the Provost’s park wouldn’t be the same without the Christmas tree and lights which are organized by the Friends of Bridge of Allan.  They are a great source of help to the community all year round, at Christmas they get the ladders out and put up our sponsor plaques.  Friends welcome new members and volunteers if you’d like to get involved.

Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas 🙂

BRIDGE OF ALLAN COMMUNITY COUNCIL SEEKING NEW MEMBERS

BRIDGE OF ALLAN COMMUNITY COUNCIL SEEKING NEW MEMBERS

Bridge of Allan Community Council is a group of local resident volunteers who care greatly about their little village. We meet third Tuesday of every month except July & December.

We’re an enthusiastic & active group and we’d like to increase our numbers. In particular we’re seeking a new treasurer but have room to welcome many new members to the fold.

Recently we’ve facilitated initiatives to improve safety throughout the village, helped organise upgrades to the local play parks, explored ways of making Bridge of Allan an Active & Thriving Community & redesigned & rebuilt our website. We review important planning issues and help garner community opinions on matters that affect the area and are an important statutory link between Stirling Council & the wider community.

Should you feel you have something to offer, or have a particular local issue that you feel strongly about we’d love to hear from you. If you’d like to chat more with some of our members to learn more about what’s involved then please get in touch. You can email us via contact@ccbridgeofallan.org.uk or write to us at Bridge of Allan Community Council, 14 Allan Walk, Bridge of Allan, FK9 4PD. You can also find us on Facebook & Twitter @ccbridgeofallan

We look forward to hearing from you.

#YoYP 2018 Get Involved !

This is Scotland’s “Year of Young People”  – a year of events and activities designed by young people for young people, with the aim of giving them a voice, empowering them to influence the decisions that affect them and to celebrate their talents.   As part of the YoYP ,Youth Ambassadors have been appointed from across Scotland and we have a number of Ambassadors living in Bridge of Allan. You can read more about YoYP2018 here.

Year of Young People 2018 website

Bridge of Allan Community Council are excited to support the activities and achievements of the young people in our community. Our aim this year is to engage with our young people and so ensure their ideas and opinions are represented on the wide range of topics that come to the community council. Indeed, we want our young people to be shaping our agenda and our emerging community plan, bringing forward things that are important to them. We see their input to the big issues as key – issues of policy, planning and investment in infrastructure will have long reaching impacts and our young citizens are the ones who will live with the consequences. It makes ever sense that our young people should be at the heart of our planning and decision making.

Over the course of this year we will invite young members of our community to join us and to get involved actively in the community. If you have a young person in your household or family, why not speak to them about their role in shaping Bridge of Allan’s future. We would love to hear from them and to give them a platform at our Community Council Meetings. If they want to get involved, ask them to contact us at contact@ccbridgeofallan.org.uk and we will make it happen!

Your Place, Your Priorities Funding Applications

Your Place, Your Priorities Funding Applications

Stirling Council, as part of their locality planning processes, has been successful in securing £65,000 to distribute to community groups, from the Scottish Government’s community choices fund. They have matched the grant, creating a fund of £130,000 for community groups, to enable them to deliver activities throughout Stirlingshire

The Your Place, Your Priorities initiative allows the local community to decide which projects are needed and should be funded in their area.

Any local community, voluntary or non-profit groups can apply to this fund – even informal groups. Funding of £500 to £10,000 is available to put each idea into action. Informal groups should seek the support of a formal group which is willing to hold the grant award in its bank account and manage payments as the project is delivered. All activities will have to happen in areas of Stirling and benefit local people.

To apply for the funding you must return this form before midday on Friday 16th March 2018, and be prepared to present your idea at an event on Saturday 24th March.  Two presentation and voting events will take place on Saturday 24th March 2018, one in Stirling High School and one in Callander Primary School. Applicants will present their projects and local community members in attendance will vote on all the applications presented. Decisions will be made on the day.

We have provided a link to a short video the Church and Society Council produced as part of its Speak Out initiative Doing Politics Differently, explaining Participatory Budgeting https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hKdIllMhrA0
